The Association was founded in 1908 in Manchester, as The Chums Benevolent Association. Two years later, it adopted the present title of The Catenian Association. Taking its name from the Latin catena for a chain, the Association is organised into local "Circles". Circles are grouped into Provinces, and there are circles throughout Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Eastbourne is part of Province 18, which covers the Sussex region.
The Eastbourne Circle was granted its Charter in 1959, and is flourishing today. We meet at the newly refurbished 3 star Langham Hotel on Royal Parade. Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month. Please contact us if you would like to meet us, as a visiting gentleman, you will be made most welcome.
